Events and Competition
Overview
The 2012 SSBD competition format will be based on individual couples. All participants will perform the provided SSBD competition routines (provided closer to competition) and will dance minimum 2 dances. The competition or Castle Awards is an optional part of the program.
Mini-Competitions
Around the middle of the program schools are encouraged to hold "Mini-Competitions" within their own school. Teacher sponsor (s) along with the ballroom instructor will guide students in constructive evaluation of their peers as dancers. Dialogue with the students about why couples were chosen should also take place. Students should begin to develop and eye for solid technique and for elements that make dances enjoyable to watch.
Selection of Participants
Each school may send as many couples to the competition as desired. Please note that the competition is optional. Please remember that even if students opt out of the Castle Awards all students in the program should continue to receive dance instruction throughout the program. Some time outside of regular SSBD hours will be allocated for the instructor to work specifically with the competition couples. More information will be provided closer to competition time.
Competition
This years' SSBD competition Castle Awards, will take place over one day. The Semi-Finals will be on a Saturday, morning end of May beginning of June, 2012 (location TBA) and the Finals will be later that same day at the same location. Partners may not rotate and couples must remain consistent throughout the competition. All participants will dance dances learned in the program.
Further details will be provided as they become available.
